Professional education at the University of California at Berkeley (Ph.D., 1989; Master in City and Regional Planning, 1984), and the City College of New York (Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, 1968); also studied at the New School of Social Research, Yale University, and New York University. Presently Associate Professor in the Department of Urban Affairs and Planning, Hunter College, New York. Has also taught at other institutions such as Rutgers University, U.C. Berkeley, and the City College of New York. Professorial experience and consulting work with several organizations such as the New Jersey Office of State Planning, the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey, the Oakland Office of Economic Development Employment, and the San Francisco Department of City Planning. Extensive research as well as numerous publications and awards in her field. Has conducted previous research on Cuban planning problems under the sponsorship of the Center for Latin American Studies of U.C. Berkeley. Member of the American Planning Association, the Regional Plan Association, and the Society for Systems Science. Native of Cuba.
